SG Orchid (Series 1)
A hybrid orchid between the Burmese Vanda teres and the Malayan Vanda Hookeriana, the Vanda (Miss Joaquim) was bred by horticulturist Agnes Joaquim and chosen as Singapore national flower in 1981. Vanda Miss Joaquim was also selected as the national flower due to its hardy and resilient qualities, and its unique trait of blooming throughout the year. These are characteristics which reflect Singapore’s continuous pursue for progress and excellence in all aspects of life, and symbolize Singapore’s never ending hope and renewal of the future. This robust free-flowering plant has long been a symbol of love and beauty, making it an elegant addition to any gold collection.
Merlion Sea
The Merlion (Malay: Singa-Laut)
Its name combines "mer" meaning the sea and "lion”. Merlion is one of the icons in Singapore, the unique creature consist of a head of a lion and a body of a fish. It is said to be that the fish body represents Singapore's origin as a fishing village when it was called “Temasek” which means "sea town" in Javanese.
The lion head represents Singapore's original name—Singapura —meaning "lion city”. Besides being a tourism marketing icon of Singapore, the Merlion is also used to symbolize Singapore in art and popular culture nowadays and also used as a mascot of Singapore.
